[A] Arc de Triomphe commissioned by Napoleon in 1806, shortly after his victory at Austerlitz.
[B] La Madeleine originally built by Napoléon as a "Temple of Glory" to his Grande Armée.
[C]Opéra Garnier. Built over an underground lake during the years 1861 and 1875, it is an ornate building richly decorated with friezes, columns, and winged figures among other statues and embellishments.
[D] Place de la Concorde with the Obelisk of Luxor at its centre.
[E] Palais Royal. The courtyard and garden is open to the public.
[ F ] Hôtel National des Invalides. Built in 1670 by Louis XIV, it now houses the tomb of Emperor Napoléon.
[G] The Conciergerie on the Ile de la Cité the notorious place of torture and imprisonment, where Marie Antoinette was incarcerated.
[H] Hotel de Ville, Paris's Town Hall, but one with a very turbulent past.
[I]Memorial to the Unknown Jewish Martyr 17, rue Geoffroy l'Asnier, commemorates European Jews who died in the Holocaust of World War II.
[J] Hôtel de Sens, one of only three medieval private residences remaining in Paris, it now is the home of the Bibliothèque Forney.
[K] Hôtel de Lamoignon currently the home of the Historical Library of the City of Paris.
[L] Hôtel de Sully. Buit in 1625, it is currently occupied by the Caisse Nationale des Monuments Historiques et des Sites.
[M] Place des Vosges - the oldests square in Paris, constructed between 1605 and 1612.
[N] Colonne de Juillet marking the site of the original Bastille prison.
[O]Opéra National de Paris - Bastille. Opened in 1989, this unusual building is characterised by the transparency of its façades and the use of the same materials inside and out.
[P]Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation dedicated to the memory of the 200,000 people deported from France to the German concentration camps during World War II.
[Q] Luxembourg Palace and Gardens built for Marie de Medicis between 1615 and 1627.
[R] Le Panthéon. Voltaire, Rousseau, Mirabeau, Marat, Victor Hugo, and Emile Zola are buried here.
[S] Observatoire de Paris. Reputedly, the first observatory built in the world.
