Madrid Card. The Madrid Card is available for a fee and is valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours. It includes travel on a sightseeing bus, some public transport and access to 40 museums. (However, note that some museums do not have an admission charge.) The site has particularly useful information on museums, including hours of operation, and metro and bus connections.
