Citiwalks: Walk in London's Soho
HOME >> London >> Soho

Take this walk around lunch time and choose from the fabulous range of restaurants in the Soho district. Several of these restaurants are highlighted on this page, but you will see literally hundreds of others.

Take the tube to [1] Piccadilly Circus, the heart of the West End and head off up Glasshouse Street, taking the first on the right into Sherwood Street. If you need to change your dollars, Euros, etc., then [2] Eurochange is on this corner at 2 Sherwood. Continue up Sherwood, turning right into Brewer Street. A 100 metres or so on the right at 55 Brewer, you might like a pint at [3] Glasshouse Stores a friendly pub with Olde Worlde atmosphere.
If you have time, and provided it's not Sunday when this market is closed, then further along Brewer, turn left into Walkers Court which will bring you to the busy (at lunch time) [4] Brewer Street Market. Established around 1840, this is Central London's only fruit and vegetable market.
At 8-10 Brewer is Madame Jojo's, the famed entertainment venue, and used by Stanley Kubrick to create "Club Sonata" in his last film "Eyes Wide Shut". Continue along Brewer until Wardour Street, famous for its many restaurants, including the popular Thai restaurant [5] Busaba Eathai at number 106.
If none of these take your fancy, continue into Old Compton Street, which intersects Dean and Greek Streets, both of which have a vast array of god value, good eating restaurants, not to mention bars and cafes.

Past the ultra chic (members only) Groucho Club at 45 Dean Street, and Signor Zilli [#41] where seafood is the specialty, the somewhat zany Steph's restaurant, [#39] and the traditional Il Siciliano [#33] is [6] Quo Vadis [#29]. Popular with business bods, this moderately expensive restaurant is in the building where Karl Marx once lived.
Backtrack now to Bowman Street and then to [7] Frith Street, turning right. Proceeding along Frith you will find the fashionable Bertorelli [#11-13], the informal Cafe Emm [#17] and the authentic Little Italy [#21].
Turn left into Old Compton passing the cute little brassiere [8] Cafe Boheme [13-17 Old Compton].
Turn right into Greek Street, right again into Shaftesbury Avenue, the center of London's theatre district, and then first left into Gerard Place. This leads to [9] Gerard Street, the heart of London's China Town, where the choices are too numerous to list. If, however, Japanese sushi is your choice, go further along Newport Place to [10] Zipangu at 8 Little Newport Street.
The walk finishes up at [11] Leicester Square, the center of London's cinema district.
